Unity State Governor Dr. Joseph Monytuil on Thursday officially launched the construction of the vital 92-kilometre Mayom-Mankien-Ajakuach Road, which connects to neighboring Warrap State and the wider Bhar el Ghazal region.

This critical road will serve as a lifeline for the movement of goods and services, significantly improving supply and enhancing economic activities throughout Unity State and establishing a key connection to Juba.

Gatjang Matiok Nhial, Director General at the Unity State Ministry of Finance, confirmed the construction of the road has commenced from Mayom Town and is fully funded by the state.

“The project is expected to be completed within two months and is fully funded by the Unity State Government through the finance ministry and is being implemented by the Dewet Caravel Investment Co. Ltd.,” he stated. “The construction of the road is implemented by the Government of Unity State under the leadership of H.E. Governor Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang. The road will be completed in September this year.”

The road rehabilitation works officially commenced with the Mayom-Mankien Road, the county’s main transport corridor connecting the county headquarters to nearly 90 percent of the county’s road network. According to officials, the project will gradually extend to other strategic roads across Mayom County.

Meanwhile, Mayom County Commissioner John Bol told the press that the project is a major investment for the county’s future, saying it will improve connectivity, facilitate trade, enhance access to essential services, and support sustainable socio-economic development. He thanked the governor for supporting and promoting development initiatives in Mayom County.

“This road rehabilitation is expected to save lives and especially reduce maternity-related deaths, because expectant mothers and other patients have found it difficult to reach health facilities due to the bad roads in the last two years,” he said.
