The Juba City Legislative Council has approved a budget of 73.48 billion South Sudanese Pounds for the 2026/2027 financial year to support administration and delivery of services in the capital.
The budget, amounting to 73,479,045,500 South Sudanese Pounds, was passed on Wednesday during the council’s 15th sitting at the legislative premises.
Council Chairperson Dina Keji said the approved budget will provide a clear financial framework for the council’s committees and departments during the new fiscal year.
“The budget provides clarity, stability and direction to the financial committee as we implement the priorities of Juba City Council,” she said. “The approval of this budget gives us a clear direction for the coming financial year and strengthens our responsibility to the people of Juba.”
Keji said the council will expect the relevant financial committees and departments to work within the approved budget and ensure that public resources are properly managed.
Juba City Mayor Christopher Serafino Wani expressed optimism that the new budget will enable the city administration to improve the delivery of services.
“We believe the new fiscal year will bring better opportunities for improving services and responding to the needs of the people of Juba,” he stated.
The mayor said the city council would work to ensure that the approved funds are used to address key priorities facing residents.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance Jennifer Yabu assured the public that the budget would be implemented in accordance with the approved plans.
“We are committed to implementing the approved budget in letter and spirit and ensuring that the resources allocated are used for their intended purposes,” she said.
The passage of the budget comes as Juba City authorities face increasing demands for improved public services and better management of the capital.
