Central Equatoria State has lifted a suspension on community sports tournaments in the capital, Juba, but ordered organizers to obtain official approval before holding competitions.
The decision was announced on Monday by State Minister for Youth and Sports Bush Buse after a meeting with tournament organizers at the National Ministry of Information premises in Juba.
Buse said all community tournaments must obtain approval from the state Ministry of Youth and Sports before resuming activities.
The lifting of the suspension comes with conditions aimed at improving security and discipline at sporting events, he said.
Buse directed organizers to provide adequate security to protect referees, technical staff, players and spectators.
“Any harassment, violence or misconduct will not be tolerated. Those who violate the rules will face disciplinary action,” Buse said.
He warned that teams or tournaments that fail to meet security and disciplinary requirements could face suspension or expulsion.
Buse also urged organizers of the Bahr el Ghazal Counties Tournament to resolve a dispute involving Cueibet and Twic Mayardit, saying the disagreement should be settled peacefully to avoid further disruption.
“The differences between Cueibet and Twic Mayardit must be resolved peacefully so that the tournament can continue without further disruption,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bahr el Ghazal Tournament President Majok Ayar Chieny apologized for an incident involving supporters from Cueibet and Twic in Munuki, a neighborhood of Juba.
Majok described the incident as unplanned and said the two communities remained peaceful.
“We apologize for what happened. The incident was not planned, and the two communities are peaceful. We are committed to resolving the matter and ensuring that the tournament continues peacefully,” he said.
