At least 17 civilians, including women, have been killed and several others wounded in a drone strike on a market in Al-Mazroub town in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, local residents told Radio Tamazuj.
The strike happened at about 10 am on Friday, hitting an area crowded with civilians, according to residents.
Residents blamed the attack on the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which has been fighting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023.
“At 10 am this morning, a drone struck the market and killed 17 people, including women,” one resident told Radio Tamazuj.
The resident said the number of casualties was still being assessed and could rise as local authorities and residents work to establish the full extent of the attack.
The SAF and RSF could not immediately be reached for comment.
The strike comes as fighting continues in North Kordofan, where the army has been advancing against the RSF. On 18 September, the SAF said its forces and allied groups had captured several areas in the state, including positions around Al-Mazroub.
Sudan’s war began in April 2023 when fighting broke out between the SAF and the RSF. The conflict has killed civilians, displaced millions of people and created a severe humanitarian crisis.
