The South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC) on Thursday handed over to Terekeka County of Central Equatoria State two new solar-powered water points that serve more than 2000 people with clean drinking water.

The solar-powered water systems pump approximately 90,000 liters of water every hour, guaranteeing the population a regular and ample supply of clean water.

Pascal Ladu, the SSRC media and public relations coordinator told Radio Tamazuji that the new water points will benefit both the community and their livestock.

“Yesterday (Thursday) we handed over two solar-powered water points or you can call them water yards in Terekeka town. The water yard will serve around 2,000 people in the community,” Ladu said. “This water yard will not only serve people but animals can come around to drink and farmers can cultivate vegetables.”

He said it was a novel installation in the area and that the community is happy because the Terekeka area faces a perennial water crisis.

“It will serve them (community) with clean water,” Ladu said. Terekeka is one of the areas that has not been having clean drinking water.”

In November 2020, the South Sudan Red Cross handed over a facility that supplies clean water to the Jelle residential area in Nimule town of Eastern Equatoria.
