A civilian was killed in an ambush on the Juba–Yambio road in Western Equatoria State on Tuesday, authorities and family members said.
The victim, identified as Benty Samuel Josphate, 40, a resident of Yambio and father of nine, was travelling in a timber transport convoy bound for Juba when the incident occurred, relatives said.
Family members said the convoy, made up of three vehicles, was attacked between Jambo and Lui at about 10 a.m.
A relative, Friday Samuel, told Radio Tamazuj that the family learned of the incident after the victim’s wife received a call from an unidentified person who said her husband had been shot and found inside a vehicle.
“We later contacted one of the workers in the convoy, who confirmed that an incident had taken place,” the family said.
Separately, Mundri East County Commissioner Charles Koro said a man had been found dead inside a vehicle in Witto Payam while reportedly travelling to Juba. He said security forces responded to the scene but no suspects had been identified.
“The situation is now normal, and movement of people has returned to calm,” Koro said, adding that investigations were continuing.
Authorities said both incidents remained under investigation amid growing concern over insecurity along major transport routes in Western Equatoria State.
