Bor youth association elects new leader

Marial Manyang Akuok has been elected chairperson of the Bor Community Youth Association (BCYA) for the 2026–2028 term after winning a closely contested vote, according to official results released by the group’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Marial secured 1,483 votes, or 53.56%, defeating his rival Ghai Agok Anuol, who garnered 1,286 votes (46.44%), the commission said.

The IEC chairperson, Manyok Abolic Dengtuor, announced the results after completing vote counting and verification. Marial won by a margin of 197 votes, or 7.12 percentage points.

Voting across six payams showed a divided outcome, with Ghai Agok winning in Jalle, Chuiekeer and narrowly in Kolnyang, while Marial led in Baidit, Makuach and Anyidi.

“The election was conducted in a transparent and credible manner, and we appreciate the cooperation shown by candidates, supporters, and voters throughout the process,” Abolic said.

In his acceptance remarks, Marial thanked youth for their support and pledged inclusive leadership.

“This victory belongs to all the youth of Bor. I am committed to promoting unity, empowering young people, and ensuring that BCYA remains a strong voice for the interests and aspirations of our community,” he said.

He called for reconciliation after the contest.

“The election is now behind us. It is time to come together, build consensus, and focus on the development of our youth and community,” Marial added.

Ghai Agok congratulated the winner and urged his supporters to accept the result.

“While the results may not have gone our way, I respect the decision of the voters and encourage all young people to continue supporting the association and its mission,” he said.

The election ushers in a new leadership term for BCYA, with members expecting the incoming administration to address youth concerns and strengthen community engagement.
