Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony and his Eastern Equatoria State counterpart, Louis Lobong Lojore, have agreed to strengthen security along the Juba-Torit Highway to improve the movement of passengers, goods, and services.
The duo reached the agreement during a meeting at the Central Equatoria State Secretariat on Tuesday.
Speaking after the meeting, Central Equatoria State Security Advisor Angilo Daya Lado said the two governors had agreed to work with security organs to provide security along the highway.
“The two leaderships affirmed to work together with the Tiger Division and state security to provide security along the highway,” he said, adding that the move is to address security concerns affecting passengers and other road users travelling between Juba and Torit.
Angilo also said the meeting discussed concerns surrounding checkpoints along the highway, particularly allegations of unauthorized collection of money from traders.
“The security organs should not collect money from traders without authorization,” he said. “Traders and security personnel need to cooperate to prevent anyone from taking the law into their own hands.”
The two state governments say closer coordination between their security organs will help improve safety and facilitate movement along the road.
