Wife of opposition leader Paul Malong dies in Juba

Teresa Adior Anguei, one of the wives of South Sudan’s former army chief turned opposition leader Gen. Paul Malong Awan, died in Juba on Saturday after a brief illness, relatives said.

Family members said Adior had suffered from headaches and fever in recent days but did not seek medical treatment because she believed the illness was minor.

“She had not complained of any serious health problems, but she had headaches and fever over the past few days and thought it was malaria,” her co-wife, Ajok Wol Atak, told Radio Tamazuj.

According to Wol, Adior’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leaving her unable to speak or walk.

“They called me last night, and I advised them to take her to hospital so we could meet there,” she said.

Adior was admitted to Nile King Hospital in Juba on Saturday, where doctors carried out a series of examinations, including tests for possible stroke-related complications, Wol said.

She died less than an hour after the tests were conducted and before the results were available, according to the family.

Wol said medical reports later indicated that Adior died from complications related to high blood pressure.

Born around 1982, Adior is survived by four children.
