A two-day workshop aimed at promoting inclusive civic engagement and social cohesion, organized by Active Citizen South Sudan (ACSS), concluded Thursday in Bentiu, Unity State.
The workshop brought together youth, women and people with disabilities (PWDs) to involve them in civic discourse and decision-making.
Chief Elizabeth Nyamai Koang told Radio Tamazuj that the training helped her identify gaps in her community when handling cases.
“This training has helped me to go and resolve issues that affect my area. I am now well-equipped,” she said.
ACSS Program Manager Gai Makwie said the initiative aimed to engage citizens in enhancing social cohesion in the state.
“The goal of this workshop is to help participants form committees to oversee and sustain peace in residential areas,” he said.
Peter Par, director general of the State Peacebuilding Ministry, acknowledged the initiative’s significance in building local capacity for peace.
“I urge you to be careful when passing information from one person to another because you may unintentionally fuel the conflict you intend to resolve. If you are a peacemaker, you must listen carefully and speak sparingly. Be ambassadors of peace in every corner—peace is everyone’s responsibility. Please implement what you have learned here,” he said.
The peace project is implemented in partnership with LM International and Rural Development Action Aid (RDAA), with support from the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
