Ten people abducted from Greater Jonglei have been received in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area as part of ongoing efforts to promote peace and reunite families.
Bor County Commissioner Ateny Pech said he joined Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok in Pibor during the peace mission, where the abductees were handed over.
He said the handover is aimed at restoring peace, rebuilding trust and strengthening relations between communities in Jonglei and Greater Pibor. He added that the governor and his delegation also addressed a public rally in Pibor, delivering a message of peace, unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Peace requires courage, dialogue, and the willingness to work together,” Ateny said. “Peace between our sisterly states is peace for our people.”
He added that the Jonglei leadership remains committed to strengthening ties between communities and ensuring people live together peacefully.
The handover comes amid ongoing efforts by local authorities and community leaders to address abductions and other sources of conflict between communities in the two areas.
