9, including a child, 3 women killed in Ruweng attack

Suspected armed youth from Unity State’s Rabkona County shot and killed nine farmers, including five men, one child and three women, in Aliny County in Ruweng Administrative Area on Thursday morning, according to local authorities.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Thomas Nyok Deng, Minister of Information in Ruweng Administrative Area, said the armed attack happened at 5 a.m. on Thursday.

“The armed youth hailing from Rabkon County attacked the Dulanga farming area in Aliny County in the Ruweng Administrative Area, and we have lost nine people, including three women, one child and five men,” he said. “The local government has tried to search for the attackers, but they were not found. The situation is not conducive, and we are now trying to establish all the facts about what had happened.”

A resident of Ruweng Administrative Area who preferred anonymity for security reasons blamed the attackers for targeting unarmed farmers who migrated to farming zones in search of food and a better life for their families.

“Yes, the attack occurred in the agricultural zone named Dulanga; the affected are normal farmers who migrated from the town and reside there for farming purposes,” he stated. “The criminals assaulted them and ran away.”
