Britain has appointed Rebecca Fabrizi as its next ambassador to South Sudan, succeeding David Ashley, who is due to complete his posting next month, the British embassy in Juba said on Wednesday.
Fabrizi is expected to take up the post in early October, the embassy said.
She has held senior diplomatic positions in Europe, Africa and Asia during a career spanning more than 30 years, according to the embassy.
“I am honoured to have been appointed as the next British Ambassador to South Sudan,” Fabrizi said in a statement.
She said she looks forward to working with the South Sudanese government, civil society and international partners on peace, stability and development.
Ashley, who is due to leave South Sudan next month, said Britain remains committed to the country and highlighted its support for health, education and humanitarian services.
“Only peace and better use of national revenues can take this country forward,” Ashley said, adding that this would be his message to South Sudan’s leaders during his final weeks in office.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office announced Fabrizi’s appointment on Aug. 4.
