The authorities of the Torit Municipal Council in Eastern Equatoria State successfully auctioned six prime commercial plots in Torit Town, raising USD 393,312.50 on Tuesday.

The auction followed an advertisement that attracted numerous bidders over the past month, demonstrating strong local interest in property investment and development.

Bidders have been given one week to pay up before officially taking possession of the parcels of land.

The auction was well-attended by municipal authorities, land officials, and security representatives.

The cost of land was fixed at USD 62.50 per square meter. Among the successful bidders were notable local figures, including Regina Ibong, Mubarak Emmy Ruben, Rose Mary Astini, and Governor Louis Lobpng Lojore, who secured two plots.

During his closing remarks after the auction process, Mustaffa Albino Zacharia, the chairperson of the bidding committee and a technical advisor to the governor, expressed satisfaction with the transparency and fairness of the auction.

“I am really very happy with the exercise, and I am sure most of you concur with me because it has been carried out in a very transparent manner. There is no hiding or any kind of bias in the process; we all participated and were convinced by the exercise,” he said. “I would like to extend my congratulations to those who successfully acquired plots, and to those who were not as fortunate, I say, hard luck.”

“There will be other opportunities, as there is still a lot of land available for auction,” Albino added.

Torit’s Mayor Oyito Baptist Soforonio emphasized the importance of leveraging land for development and the benefit of the community.

“We want to encourage you to utilize this land effectively, as it reflects our values in Torit,” he said. “To those who successfully bid, you have one week to process your payments, and for those interested in the remaining plots, we encourage you to spread the word and attract investments that will support our state’s growth.”

“This auction exemplifies how we can conduct transparent land deals,” Mayor Oyito added.
