The Dinka Malual, Luo, and Rezeigat border peace conference commences in Aweil West

The border communities of the Dinka Malual and Luo of South Sudan and Rezeigat of Sudan on Monday began a three-day pre-migration peace conference in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s Aweil West County under the theme “Promoting peace and unity for peaceful coexistence among border communities.”

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the Director-General at the state peacebuilding ministry, Peter Tong Garang, announced the commencement of the cattle migration peace conference.

“The pre and post migration peace conference has commenced today (Monday) and it has attracted members of the Rezeigat Community from Sudan’s East Darfur State and the Dinka Malual and Lou communities of Aweil North, Aweil West and Aweil Center counties in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State,” he said.

According to Tong, the conference is expected to address pressing issues among the border communities within a three-day period.

“The conference activities will be going on for three days, and that means it will be concluded on Wednesday,” he said. “The peace conference was officially opened by Deputy Governor Tong Lual Ayat, and we will discuss all issues about our peaceful coexistence, cattle theft, outstanding matters of the past year, and renewal of the expired term of reference.”

For his part, Abdalla Sadik Saad, the Chairperson of the Rezeigat Joint Border Peace Committee, commended the communities on their commitment to discuss entry and exit points for the Sudanese herders.

“The conference is proceeding successfully, and we are now discussing entry and exit corridors for the Sudanese cattle keepers into South Sudan,n and we hope we will come up with an agreement on these points,” he stated.
