Bursts of fire were heard near Damazin Airport in Sudan’s Blue Nile state on Sunday, reportedly after a delay in payment of salaries.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, multiple sources from the town confirmed that the Sudanese national army (SAF) opened fire randomly near the airport.

The incident was believed to have been instigated by reports of delayed salaries of the army in Tadamoun Locality. But there were no reported casualties among the civilians.

“The soldiers were very angry because they were not given their salaries on time, so every soldier decided to take up his gun and started shooting randomly near the airport,” a witness said.
