Speeding vehicle kills 2 boys, injures another in Bentiu

At least two boys were killed instantly and another injured on Saturday morning outside the main gate of the Bentiu Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) Camp in Unity State by a speeding vehicle destined for the camp.

Major Domai Dak Kai, the traffic police director in charge of highways in Unity State, told Radio Tamzju on Saturday that the accident occurred in the market area outside the camp’s Sector One gate, where the boys, whose names were not given, were selling wares. He added that the injured boy was receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The driver who came from Rubkona and was heading to the IDP camp was speeding before he knocked three boys who were selling items in the market outside the gate of the camp,” he explained. “Two of the boys died on the spot, and one was injured and is being treated at the Bentiu Hospital.”

Major Dak appealed to the driver not to speed and respect traffic rules.

Meanwhile, Gai Tut, an eyewitness, said the accident happened at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

“I witnessed the accident. The vehicle from Rubkona was speeding and rammed into people in the market outside the Sector One gate,” he said. “My condolences go to the family of the deceased.”
