Southern militia accused of crimes in Kordofan

Sudanese citizens in Abu Jubeiha area of South Kordofan accused South Sudanese rebels based there of killing a man and looting cows and goats from the local people.

A witness who declined to give his name out of fear for his own safety told Radio Tamazuj that 1500 soldiers belonging to the anti-Juba rebel group are based territory controlled by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) at Alsahal and Suragia area in Abu Jubeiha Locality in South Kordofan.

“During the Eid day, they killed a man and his body was lying on the ground,” the witness said with annoyance. “We can see the militias in town getting fuel and food from the government and moving in and out,” he said.

The witness reported that the militias loot cows and goats from the citizens of the area. “Those forces are causing a lot of disturbance to the people here,” reported the eyewitness.

He further added that the rebels are armed with 46 Land Cruisers loaded with heavy and light weapons. He accused the militias of taking sides with the SAF in the attack on Liri against the SPLA-North.

He pointed out that the Government of Sudan has strong ties with the South Sudan militias. The witness said that the government’s claim to have stopped supporting South Sudanese militias is "a big lie" contending that "what it says is not what it does.”

“SAF and the militias were jointly fighting the SPLA-N in Liri, and they get fuel from the town under the government,” he said.

Radio Tamazuj was unable to contact the militia or the army for comment on these allegations.
