The authorities in Unity State’s Leer County last week issued an order forbidding the entry of goods trucks into the county at night to check the movement of drugs and other illicit substances.
County Commissioner Major General Stephen Taker Riek Dong said trucks will only be allowed to enter the county before midnight.
“The entry of trucks that bring goods from the state capital, Bentiu, has been banned at night. Trucks carrying goods will only be officially allowed to enter the county before midnight,” he said. “I have warned that traders arriving after midnight will be questioned unless they notify the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) or tax authorities in advance about unavoidable delays.”
Gen. Taker also cautioned that trucks found transporting hidden illegal or dangerous items among legitimate goods will have their cargo confiscated and the vehicles detained.
