The Commissioner of Ingpung County in the Nuba Mountains region of Sudan’s South Kordofan told Radio Tamazuj that 18,494 displaced people have so far arrived in his jurisdiction after fleeing Kauda, Iry, Al-Qardoud and Al-Hamam.
Commissioner Suhair Al-Basha Daldoum said the figure represents the displaced people who have been in displacement camps, while large numbers of others are dispersed across various areas.
The commissioner explained that the displaced people are currently distributed between the Aqiricamp in Um Qurban Payam and the Anbal camp in Amdalo Payam, noting that the large number of displaced people has placed enormous pressure on basic services, particularly water, health, and education. Some schools have been converted into temporary shelters.
“Regarding education, our locality, through the education administration, had succeeded in addressing the situation of pupils and students sitting for the 2025–2026 academic year examinations,” he said. “The educational status of 282 primary and secondary school students in the two camps was regularized to enable them to sit for their examinations.”
The commissioner reassured displaced people in the camps, stressing that the local authorities would continue working in coordination with humanitarian organizations to provide security, food, and shelter.
