Explosions have been heard in several parts of Damazin, the capital of Sudan’s Blue Nile state, following a drone attack on the city late on Sunday.
Local sources said explosions were heard in the direction of the military hospital and the airport. One drone was also reported to have crashed at a fuel station.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Videos shared on social media showed flames lighting up the night sky, followed by loud explosions.
Local sources blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) for the attack. The SPLM-N controls parts of Blue Nile state, including Kurmuk and Geissan.
Neither group has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier on Sunday, the Sudanese army said its air defences had shot down a drone as it attempted to target army positions in the Balang area.
The Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative condemned what it described as attacks on civilian facilities in Damazin, including fuel stations.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, the group said the attacks had caused fear among residents and put lives and property at risk.
It called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, the protection of civilians and civilian facilities, and the opening of humanitarian corridors.
The group also urged the international community to document alleged violations and ensure that those responsible are held to account.
Sudan has been at war since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions.
