Five killed in airstrike near El Geneina airport, West Darfur

Five people, including two women, have been killed in an airstrike near El Geneina Airport in Sudan’s West Darfur State, according to eyewitnesses and the state government.

Khalil Hamid, secretary-general of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)-aligned government in West Darfur, accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of carrying out the attack using a drone on Monday, 26 October 2026.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that the drone flew over El Geneina, the state capital, before launching an attack towards the airport. They said five people, including two women working on nearby farmland, were killed in the strike.

Hamid said the drone fired three missiles during the attack, which he described as a strike on civilian objects. He said El Geneina Airport had been out of operation since fighting erupted between the SAF and the RSF in April 2023 and had not handled any air traffic since then.

Sudan has been at war since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF. The RSF largely controls West Darfur, including El Geneina.

Hamid described Monday’s incident as the third attack involving drones and Antonov aircraft targeting the airport since the conflict began. He condemned the attack and called for an end to strikes on civilian objects and the destruction of infrastructure.

The SAF’s response to the allegations was not available at the time of publication.
