Discontent over health services in East Darfur town

Citizens in Abu Karinka of East Darfur complained about poor services and lack of medicines, health centers and drug stores. They say that hospitals lack even life-saving drugs. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, various East Darfur residents pointed to neglect by the authorities of the state, as health services deteriorate and medical staff remain lacking. The East Darfur town also suffers from a shortage of drinking water and poor education conditions owing to missing textbooks and teachers.

Abu Karinka is a locality centre east of the state capital Ed Daein and just north of the border localities Abu Jabra and Bahr El Arab. According to a 2012 World Health Organization map of health centres in Darfur, there are 10 ‘basic health units’ in the locality but no primary health care clinics or hospitals.
