Upper Nile admits crop failure in Renk

The Ministry of Agriculture of Upper Nile state has admitted the serious impact of worms and insects on the agricultural crops in Renk County amid fears of its effects on the season as a whole.

Eng. James Akwej Deng Director of Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture Renk County in a statement to Radio Tamazuj from Renk town said that agricultural pests are threatening the agricultural season in the county.

He explained that there are three years in a row in which the Ministry of Agriculture did not have any spraying operations in the county agricultural projects, which helped the spread of agricultural pests, resulting in damage and elimination of agricultural crops.

Akwej also pointed to the effect of spraying operations in the neighboring agricultural project at the border in White Nile state, which pushed the pests toward the agricultural projects adjacent to the border in Upper Nile state.

He revealed the need for coordination in the spraying process in the border counties in White Nile and Upper Nile states to ensure simultaneous control of agricultural pests. He stressed the failure of the agricultural season in Renk county, which the possibility of worsening into other areas even if the ministry arranges spraying operations at this time.
