A close associate of suspended First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar on Monday denied allegations that he shared classified information or financed activities linked to the March 2025 Nasir incident.
During the 46th session of the court, a South African digital forensic expert, Peter Calvin, presented evidence alleging that Mam Pal Dhuor unlawfully disclosed top-secret information related to the March 2025 attack on a military garrison in Nasir.
The expert alleged that Mam Pal shared sensitive operational details connected to the garrison attack, including information on mobilization, intelligence procedures and organized militia strategies.
He also presented video and photographic material allegedly showing Mam Pal disclosing confidential information. The material was said to have been retrieved from a Samsung Galaxy S2 (folder six), an iPhone 16 Pro Max and a Nokia device manufactured by HMD Global Oy.
The expert also submitted digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages exchanged between Mam Pal and several individuals identified as Buom Janguan, William Deng, Gatriathiang and General Hokdor Chuol.
However, while testifying during the 85th session held at Freedom Hall on Monday in Juba, Mam Pal Dhuor, the second accused in the Nasir attack case, rejected the allegations that he shared intelligence reports related to the incident.
“I was accused by the expert of sharing intelligence information with accused in Juba and leaders of armed youth in Nasir and Ulang counties. I am not an intelligence officer, I am a businessman,” Mam said.
Mam, a 38-year-old businessman and member of Machar’s SPLM-IO, rejected claims linking him to a message that read: “May Almighty God be with them to overrun the SSPDF Dinka,” which had earlier been presented in court by a digital forensic expert.
“I didn’t communicate with Tor Gile Thoan via voice call on 3 March 2025 and I also didn’t reply to any message. The expert didn’t clarify to the court the message sent to me by unknown sender,” he said.
He also denied receiving information about the arrest of Petroleum Minister Puot Kang Chuol through a message stating that the minister had been taken to the “Blue House”.
Mam argued that news of Puot Kang’s arrest was already widely circulating in media and on social media platforms at the time.
The court adjourned the hearing to June 10, 2026, to continue testimony from Mam Pal Dhuor.
Mam is among eight defendants facing charges including treason, crimes against humanity, murder, terrorism and destruction of property in connection with the March 2025 attack on a South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) base in Nasir.
The other defendants include suspended First Vice President Riek Machar, Puot Kang Chuol, Gatwech Lam Puoch, Lt. Gen. Gabriel Duop Lam, Camilo Gatmai Kel, Mading Yak Riek and Dominic Gatgok Riek.
Machar remains under house arrest, while the remaining accused are being held by the National Security Service.
Prosecutors allege that Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) forces, allied with the White Army militia, killed 257 SSPDF soldiers, including commander David Majur Dak, and destroyed or seized military equipment worth about US$58 million during the attack.
The defendants have denied the charges.
