The authorities in Jonglei State’s Bor County have confirmed the successful recovery of 121 head of cattle that were stolen on Sunday from cattle camps in the Pakwau and Tibek areas of Bor Town.
According to Bor County Commissioner Samuel Ateny Pech, the recovery was made possible through the swift and coordinated response of local youth who pursued the raiders. The suspects were reportedly moving eastward toward the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) when the youth intercepted them.
“I commend the youth for their bravery to protect their properties,” he said. “The cattle are being returned to the town.”
Commissioner Ateny highlighted that no major clashes occurred during the operation, crediting the youth’s determination and community coordination for the peaceful recovery.
Cattle raiding remains one of the main drivers of insecurity and inter-communal conflict in Jonglei State and the GPAA, often resulting in loss of life, displacement, and destruction of livelihoods.
Local authorities have called on communities to strengthen cooperation with security forces and report suspicious movements to prevent future incidents.
The recovered cattle have yet to be returned to their rightful owners, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the raid.
