A new branch of Mustaqbal Bank (“Bank of the Future”) was officially opened in El Geneina, the capital of Sudan’s West Darfur State, on Monday, with officials hailing its anticipated role in revitalizing economic and commercial activity and expanding access to financial services after years of declining banking activity in the state.
Adam Al-Tahir Hasballah, Minister of Investment in the Government of Peace and Unity, also known as Tasis, a parallel government established by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, said the opening of the branch was part of the bank’s efforts to advance its strategic plan and provide innovative banking services.
“The new branch reflects the bank’s commitment to quality and transparency,” he said. “Sudan is facing significant economic challenges, but they can be overcome through determination and hard work. The current phase requires the country to build a new state on new foundations.”
For his part, Tijani Al-Tahir Karshoum, head of the West Darfur Civil Administration, described the opening of the bank as a significant addition to the state’s economy, commerce and investment.
He said it would also provide an important service to residents who had been deprived of banking services for more than three years.
“Some banks plundered customers’ funds by closing their bank accounts and withdrawing their money,” he said. “The opening of Future Bank will help address some of the challenges surrounding the protection of citizens’ funds and provide more effective banking services.”
Meanwhile, Bank of the Future Director-General Al-Sheikh Faqiri said they intend to contribute to the stability of the national economy and become one of the key pillars of economic recovery in the region, particularly as residents continued to suffer from the absence of an effective banking system capable of meeting their needs.
“The bank will work to connect different parts of the state through a network for domestic and international money transfers, while providing banking services required by residents, traders, and businesses involved in economic and investment activities,” he stated.
