Arrests near Ingessana Hills in Blue Nile

Sudanese authorities in Blue Nile state have arrested a number of citizens from South Damazin and Roseires suburbs because they suspected them of being members of SPLM-North.

Sources on the ground asserted that the people arrested are mere civilians who do not have any links to the SPLM/N.

The sources explained that Sudanese security agents arrested these people after they climbed down from the mountains where they live to come and celebrate “Jeda Nar,” a traditional festival done at the time of harvesting.

The detained people include members of the Ingessana, Al Bata and Hamag tribes who descended from the mountains to participate in traditional custom.  This practice is usually practiced once each harvest season.

The local people have considered this act by the security agents as a breach of the culture of Blue Nile.
