Bor State Hospital, the main referral medical facility in Jonglei State, has received a donation of 30 beds and essential medicines from the UNMISS Korean Contingency (ROK HMEC), officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Dr. Bol Chaw Manyang, the hospital’s medical director, lauded the support, saying the donation came at a crucial time when they are facing shortages of medical supplies and equipment.
“Today (Wednesday) in the morning, we had a donation of 30 beds and some medicines from UNMISS ROK HMEC, which is the Korean contingency. They brought drugs and the beds together with the mattresses,” he told this publication. “These will be distributed across the various departments in the hospital to support patient care. The medicines will be given to patients suffering from different conditions.”
Residents also welcomed the donation, describing it as a timely boost to the hospital’s capacity to serve the community.
Peter Ajak Ayom, a resident of Bor Town, said the support will help many people who cannot afford to buy medicine from commercial pharmacies.
“This donation is really important because many of us who go to the hospital are often told to buy medicines from private clinics or pharmacies, which most people cannot afford,” he said. “If these drugs are used properly, they will save lives and reduce suffering.”
He also urged the hospital administration to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of the donated supplies.
“I want to appeal to the hospital management to make sure these medicines reach the patients who truly need them,” Ajak added. “They should be careful so that no one diverts the drugs to private clinics for profit. These items are meant to help the community, not for business.”
The donation from the UNMISS Korean Contingent is part of ongoing humanitarian support aimed at improving healthcare services in Jonglei State.
