Electoral materials have arrived in Bor, the capital of Jonglei State, as South Sudan prepares for voter registration ahead of elections scheduled for December.
The materials were delivered by the National Elections Commission to the Jonglei State High Elections Committee.
Tuor Majok Guech, chairperson of the state elections committee, said the team had already assessed voter registration centres across the state.
He said the consignment includes registration books, pens, T-shirts, caps and other promotional materials, as well as equipment such as a generator, projector, screen, megaphones and a rechargeable speaker.
Tuor urged residents to prepare for the registration exercise and turn up in large numbers once the National Elections Commission announces the registration date.
He said registration is a requirement for anyone wishing to vote.
“For you to choose your leader, you must first register,” he said.
Tuor also urged residents not to focus on candidates at this stage, saying voter registration would come first, followed by the nomination of candidates.
The state elections committee said it would announce the registration centres and other details once the National Elections Commission officially sets the registration date.
Tuor encouraged residents across Jonglei State to register so they could take part in choosing their leaders.
