The Commissioner of Unity State’s Mayom County, John Bol Mayak, on Saturday handed over 51 head of cattle recovered from raiders to the authorities of Tonj North County in Warrap State in a continued effort to strengthen inter-state cooperation in combating cattle rustling and promoting peace along the common borders.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Commissioner Bol praised the authorities of Mayom County and Unity State for recovering and returning the cattle, saying it would help strengthen trust and confidence between the administrations of the states.
“My officials and I are committed to continued cooperation in dealing with conflicts relating to cattle. The administration of Governor Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang is highly committed to taking firm action against cattle raiding and other criminal activities,” he said. “The authorities in Warrap State should also return the cattle that were raided from the communities in Mayom County.”
“Such cooperation is vital in establishing lasting peace and confidence between the two states,” Bol added.
For his part, Tonj North County Commissioner Agany Lok Agany commended the Unity State government and Mayom County for returning the stolen cattle to the rightful owners.
“My appreciation goes to the Government of Unity State and the authorities of Mayom County for recovering and returning the stolen cattle,” he said.
Agany said the gesture would help strengthen trust and confidence between the two administrations.
Meanwhile, John Mangom Kom, the Commissioner of Twic County in Warrap State, who was present during the handover ceremony, lauded the Government of Unity State and the authorities of Mayom County for the recovery and return of the stolen cattle. He reaffirmed his commitment to continued cooperation in strengthening peace relations and security between the two states.
