Man killed, child abducted in separate incidents in Duk

A man was killed and two others injured, while a child was abducted, in two separate but related attacks in Jonglei State’s Duk County on Saturday, authorities said.

Duk County Commissioner John Chatim Ruaei told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday evening that in the first incident, a group of women were waylaid while going to attend a marriage ceremony in Duk Padiet Town on 1 November.

“The attackers waylaid ladies moving from Poktap to Duk Padiet Town for a marriage ceremony. They were attacked, chased away, and a child was abducted from one of the ladies,” he explained. “The second incident involved local youth attempting to rescue the abducted child. In their attempt, they were waylaid, leaving one dead and two others injured.”

Commissioner Chatim said attacks have been recurring and called on the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) authorities, whose youth have been accused of involvement, to intervene.

“Also, on 30 October, about 44 cattle were raided in an attack in Duk Payuel Town,” he stated. “So, we urge the GPAA authorities to investigate, recover the stolen cattle, and apprehend those involved.”

However, GPAA Information Minister Jacob Werchum Jouk said they are not aware of the incidents.
