Independence Day message from Anita Kiki Gbeho, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS

As South Sudan marks its 15th Independence Day, I extend my warm congratulations to the country’s citizens and its leaders.

This anniversary is an opportunity to honor the courage and determination of the South Sudanese people while reflecting on the future they seek, one defined by peace, opportunity, justice, and unity.

The path to stability and security is not easy. Yet, across this young nation, communities continue to demonstrate an unwavering belief in a more prosperous tomorrow. At this pivotal moment, those aspirations call for a renewed commitment to dialogue, trust, and the common good.

For our part, UNMISS remains a steadfast partner to the people of South Sudan, supporting efforts that foster dialogue, strengthen confidence, and help create the conditions for a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic transition.

May the spirit that inspired the birth of this nation also renew a shared determination to place the needs of the people first.

Happy 15th Independence Day, South Sudan!
