The Ministry of Health in Sudan’s East Darfur State on Sunday announced five confirmed cholera cases that are being treated at El Daein Hospital.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, East Darfur Health Ministry Director-General Al-Azraq Hassan Himida said five suspected cholera cases were admitted to the hospital on the evening of Friday, 11 September 2026.
“All five patients had arrived from areas in North Kordofan State, prompting a response team to monitor the cases, prepare for a potential outbreak, and assess the situation,” he said. “Following the necessary medical tests, the patients were confirmed to have cholera and were transferred to the hospital’s isolation ward. The patients’ conditions had improved following treatment.”
Hassan added that the ministry was taking precautionary measures against a potential outbreak by preparing the eastern localities bordering West Kordofan State—Abu Jabra, Adila and Abu Karinka—with isolation centres and emergency response teams.
Radio Tamazuj’s monitoring indicates that cholera is currently spreading extensively in West and North Kordofan states.
