A CT scanner in El Daein, the capital of Sudan’s East Darfur state, has resumed operations after being out of service for more than two months, the state’s health insurance administration said on Wednesday.
The administration said the scanner is ready to receive patients after engineers and health insurance staff completed repairs. It described the machine as the only CT scanner serving the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
The outage had made it difficult for patients in the two regions to access CT diagnostic services, according to the health insurance administration.
Idris Kabour Shaqra, director of the East Darfur Health Insurance Administration, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the repairs were carried out with support from engineers, health insurance staff and businessman Hamed Abdelqader Jawafaya, among others.
“The CT scanner received its first patient for diagnostic examination today, Wednesday, and services will continue for all patients at the El Daein Health Insurance Centre,” Shaqra said.
He said the health insurance administration would continue providing services in the coming period.
The scanner resumed operations as Sudan’s healthcare system continues to face disruptions caused by the war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which began in April 2023.
