The Christian Leaders Fellowship (CLF) plans to establish a youth training centre in South Sudan focused on mindset education and leadership development, its chairperson, Yo Han Kim, said during a meeting with parliamentary Speaker Joseph Ngere Paciko in Juba.
Kim said the fellowship was seeking to work with South Sudan to support young people through training programmes aimed at fostering leadership skills and personal development.
“We are very hopeful to work together with South Sudan, especially focusing on training the young people, the youth. Youth, they are the hope of a country,” Kim said.
He said national development depended not only on material resources but also on the attitudes and outlook of citizens, particularly young people.
“Youth, if they can only be trained with mindset education, the mindset training, we believe that the success does not only come from the materialistic world,” he said.
According to Kim, changing how young people think, perceive challenges and approach opportunities could contribute to long-term national development.
“However, when one can change their mindset, the way they think, the way they see, the way they believe in their heart, then truly by the youth, by the young people, we are able to develop the country and change the country completely,” he said.
Kim cited South Korea’s development as an example of what he described as the impact of mindset transformation.
“I come from South Korea, and South Korea was one of the poorest countries and one of the most difficult countries around the whole world. However, through the change of the mindset, the mind education training in the program, the whole country has changed and now became one of the top 10 economic countries in the whole world,” he said.
The proposed centre would provide mindset education and leadership training programmes for young people, according to Kim.
South Sudan has one of the world’s youngest populations, with youth accounting for a large share of its citizens. Policymakers and development partners have repeatedly identified youth empowerment, education and skills development as critical to addressing unemployment and supporting long-term peace and economic growth.
Paciko welcomed the proposal, describing mindset transformation as an important component of national development. He encouraged the fellowship to expand its activities beyond Juba to reach young people in the country’s states and administrative areas.
The meeting focused on potential areas of cooperation between the Christian Leaders Fellowship and the Transitional National Legislative Assembly in support of youth development and nation-building efforts in South Sudan.
Christian Leaders Fellowship (CLF) is an international network of Christian pastors and church leaders founded in South Korea that promotes Bible-based leadership training, evangelism and “mind education” programmes for clergy and youth.
