The Government of Central Equatoria State on Tuesday launched the construction of a 53-kilometer murram road to improve the road network and ease transportation in Juba County’s Lokiliri Payam.
Addressing the press during the launch in Nesitu, Central Equatoria State Minister of Peacebuilding Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, who is also the acting information minister, said the state government is committed to ensuring services are delivered to the people.
“Lokiliri Payam made a step in Jokokwe North Boma to launch a 53-kilometer road that is going to be opened by the payam administration,” he said. “As you can see, the citizens of this area have gathered to welcome the team and also to witness the launching of the opening of the roads in this part of Juba County.”
According to Aligo, opening the roads will help connect Lokiliri Payam to Juba City.
“This is a very important and positive step because when these roads are open, the local administration will hand over plots to the owners,” he stated. “This step is very important because it is going to help the state government to decongest Juba City, which is having a lot of issues to do with the settlement.”
For his part, Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon said they are working to ensure that roads are opened to ease the movement of people.
“We have come here to launch the construction of the road and hand over land to the rightful owners. The project of opening the road is a state project, and we want to ensure that the roads of Lokiliri or Nesitu area are opened,” he said. “We have also come here to hand over ambulances equipped with drugs to Lokiliri Payam to help the residents with health services so that when a person gets sick, he or she can be rushed to the hospital quickly.”
