The Central Equatoria State Ministry of Health has called on partners and the national government to support the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Kajo-keji County to check pandemics and diseases at the IDP site.
Over 10,000 people are believed to have been displaced in Kajo-keji County following recent clashes between the Ugandan army and the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in the border areas weeks ago.
Joyce Bakwa Agole, the state health minister, said the IDPs are vulnerable to outbreaks of pandemics and diseases and urged partners to join hands with the national government to support the displaced people whose situation is dire.
“I have seen there is a need for support and I am calling and appealing to friends and partners to join hands with the Government of South Sudan and of Central Equatoria State to extend support to these IDPs because at this point, there is high risk of pandemics and diseases that may need our intervention,” she said.
Internally displaced persons face severe health risks, including infectious disease outbreaks from overcrowding, acute malnutrition, and mental health disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These dangers stem from a lack of clean water, disrupted medical care, and unsafe living conditions.
