Four member of a Sudanese family are under arrest in Kenya following the mysterious death of a Kenyan domestic worker at their residence in the capital Nairobi.
The suspects, a mother, her two daughters and a son, were seized following the death of Zeitun Kavayo at their Kilimani estate residence on the evening of September 18.
Kilimani police boss Patricia Yegon confirmed the arrests, adding that the suspects would remain in custody as investigations were being conducted.
Kavayo lived in Kibera estate from where she commuted to work in Kilimani, about 4km away.
The Sudanese suspects were on Monday presented before the Kibera Law Courts following which the police were granted 10 days to complete the investigations.
Kavayo’s family members and acquaintances have dismissed claims that she committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor balcony of the family apartment block. Her daughter, Faith. said Kavayo had no reason to commit suicide as she had many plans for herself and her family.
The suspects had reportedly accused Kavayo of stealing Sh5,000 (about US$40), allegations that have been dismissed by Faith and Kavayo’s bother Bakari Lilumbi.
Residents of Kibera Wednesday held a demonstration in Kilimani estate to demand justice for Kavayo.
