The Yei Civil Society Forum has called for an investigation into recent attacks involving young people in Yei River County, including the shooting of an 18-year-old student.
Martin Wani, a Senior Three student at Excell International Secondary School, was shot on Tuesday evening in Hai Dileb, about four kilometres north of Yei town.
According to the authorities, an unidentified gunman allegedly took Wani’s mobile phone before shooting him in the back. He was taken to Yei Civil Hospital, where he later died from blood loss.
The Civil Society Forum also reported that 20-year-old Senior Two student Simon Gala survived after his house in Kondeko Sub-Boma was set on fire while he was inside.
Forum chairperson Modi Arkangelo called on security authorities to investigate the incidents and identify those responsible.
“We urge the security authorities to investigate these incidents and apprehend those responsible,” Arkangelo said.
Yei youth leader Gaga Frank also called for an investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
“We are urging the county government to bring the perpetrators to justice so that such incidents do not happen again,” Frank said.
There was no immediate information on any arrests in connection with the incidents.
