Wau police arrest suspects after deadly attack at birthday party

Police in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested several suspects following a deadly attack at a birthday celebration in Wau town that left one person dead and two others injured.

State police spokesperson Major Santino Odul Mayen told reporters on Friday that the incident occurred on Thursday evening in the Salam residential area, where a group of young men allegedly attacked the gathering.

“A gang from Hai Kamshin area stormed the party and assaulted attendees, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man,” Odul said.

The victim was identified as Moatasem Mohamed Adam. Two others, including a 19-year-old who reportedly lost several teeth and a 7-year-old girl who was severely beaten, were injured in the attack and are receiving treatment at Wau Teaching Hospital.

Odul said several suspects have been detained and are being held at Wau Police Station as investigations continue.

“Police assure the public that law enforcement is committed to ensuring justice is served,” he said.
