W. Equatoria state begins major cleaning drive in Yambio

Authorities in Western Equatoria State launched a town-wide cleaning campaign Friday in Yambio, under the motto “Keep Yambio Town Clean.”

The campaign was officially launched at Yambio Airstrip with the participation of state officials, security forces, community leaders, youth and residents.

The mayor of Yambio Municipality, Fozia Abbas Barnaba Bangasu, told the media the initiative aims to improve sanitation, public health and the general appearance of the town.

She said the exercise began with cleaning roads and surroundings around Yambio Airstrip so that visitors arriving in the town find a clean and welcoming environment.

Bangasu emphasized that the campaign will continue beyond the launch day and will cover markets, residential areas, public places and feeder roads.

Emmy Emmanuel Lavirick, the state minister of transport, roads and bridges, said the campaign is intended to change the image of Yambio through daily cleaning activities. He added that the initiative will be extended to communities and local chiefs to ensure sustainability.

Governor James Al-Taib Berapai called on residents to work with the government to keep Yambio clean and safe. He said cleanliness reflects good values and contributes to a healthy environment.

Community and youth leaders welcomed the campaign, saying it will help prevent disease outbreaks and promote peace and safety.

Authorities urged all residents to support the initiative, stressing that keeping Yambio clean is everyone’s responsibility.
