A protocol officer for the Vice President for Services Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Ayii, died on Wednesday morning in a car accident in Malualkon Town in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State’s Aweil East County.
According to officials, the deceased, identified as Agany Deng Arop, 28, was among the aides who were driving from his boss’s village home in the Amarjal area of Madhol Payam to Wanyjok to refuel vehicles at a local petrol station.
Aweil East County Information Director Paul Kuch Akot told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the accident occurred in the morning near Malualkon Airstrip and that the vice president’s assistant passed away after a vehicle he was driving overturned.
“The accident happened this (Wednesday) morning at almost 9:00 A.M. around the airstrip on the road between Madhol and Malualkon Town. They were driving from the vice president’s house on their way to refuel vehicles at Wanyjok Petroleum Station,” he explained. “They were speeding before they reached the final destination, and the deceased, who was driving, lost control and passed away after the vehicle overturned.”
According to Aweil East County Police Inspector Col. Bol Deng Dhel, preliminary investigations indicate that two vehicles were heading in the same direction and crashed into each other, and that the deceased lost his life after being ejected from the vehicle and thrown onto the ground.
“According to the firsthand information, the two vehicles that were heading in the same direction collided, and one of the drivers who had not fastened his safety belt was ejected from the seat and died instantly,” he said. “We consider it to be a traffic accident, and I have already directed traffic police officers to proceed with procedures. The late Agany Deng Arop was 28-years-old.”
A resident of Aweil East County who knew the deceased but spoke on condition of anonymity told this publication that Agany was well regarded and respected.
“The deceased protocol officer in the Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi’s office was involved in a tragic car accident early this (Wednesday) morning,” he stated. “He was a well-respected individual among the close aides for the vice president.”
