US president tells Sudan, South Sudan to return to talks

US president Barack Obama has urged the governments of Sudan and South Sudan to stop fighting and resume direct negotiations between the leaders of both countries.

In a taped message to the people of both countries Obama said ‘we need the government of Sudan to stop its military actions including military bombardment and for South Sudan to stop supporting armed groups across the border.’

He said the two presidents should show courage to return to the table to negotiate a peaceful resolution.
