UJOSS boss to preside over regional media awards

The President of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), Patrick Oyet, is a member of the panel of the 2025 Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Media Awards to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the end of this month.

Also on the panel is South Sudanese multimedia journalist and lecturer at the University of Juba’s School of Journalism, Media and Communication Studies, Adeng Mayik.

According to a press statement from IGAD, the panel will be chaired by the Head of Production at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, Sophia Matovu.

Other members of the panel include the Assistant Director of Media Training at the Media Council of Kenya, Christine Nguku, and Ethiopian filmmaker and producer Dirbdil Assefa.

The IGAD Media Awards celebrate journalistic excellence across the region. It was established as part of the bloc’s commitment to promoting ethical, responsible, and impactful media. The awards honor media professionals and storytellers who contribute to regional peace, development, and integration.

This year’s theme is: Storytelling for Climate Action: For a Secure, Resilient and Stable Region.

IGAD is an eight-member state bloc comprising Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
