Sudanese army accused of killing detainees in Kadugli

Sudan’s military intelligence is accused of killing dozens of people in military detention in the war-torn state of South Kordofan. This comes after a battle in Daldako area near the state capital Kadugli.

Though the reports are not confirmed, Radio Tamazuj was told by a government source who preferred to withhold his name that the army killed over 50 citizens who were detained in the custody of Division 5 Infantry Division, which is stationed in the town’s Saraf El Ahmer area.

The military intelligence of Division 5 were accused of killing nearly 30 traders, allegedly for smuggling goods to the rebel-controlled areas. They also allegedly killed about 23 people they accused of supporting the Sudanese People Liberation Army.

“These systematic killings were carried out following the defeat of the Sudanese Armed Forces and its allied militia in Daldako area,” explained the source.

Dismissal of traditional leaders

Meanwhile, in neighbouring West Kordofan State, the Lagawa Locality commissioner issued a decision jailing tribal leaders of the Fursan South and Fursan North tribes and issued another order dismissing them from the native administration.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the lawyer Abdul Qadir Nur said the authorities ordered six months imprisonment against seven leaders of Fursan South and seven other leaders from Fursan North tribes.

He noted chieftains from the two tribes were dismissed and jailed apparently because they failed to contain the ongoing feud between the two sides in the locality.

The lawyer further revealed that a reconciliation committee formed recently is working to help the local authorities to speed up the peace conference between the two tribes.

Fighting between the two tribes erupted when the Fursan South accused Fursan North of involvement in killing one of their tribesmen.
