Police probe death of South Sudanese woman at Kenya coast

Kenyan police said they are investigating the death of a South Sudanese woman who reportedly died while fleeing from her white lover in the coastal town of Malindi.

Kenyan media reported that the woman, identified as Regina Ayen, sustained severe injuries after falling onto sharp metal spikes atop a gate she tried to climb while attempting to escape.

NTV Kenya said Ayen was rescued and rushed to hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

“Ayen tried to jump over the main gate but slipped and fell. The spikes pierced her right thigh,” NTV quoted Malindi Deputy Police Commander Daniel Chacha as saying on Friday evening.

Doctors determined the cause of death to be excessive bleeding resulting from the deep wounds, the station reported.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Family members were informed immediately after her death.

A relative, David Rachur, thanked police for their swift response and pledged the family’s cooperation with investigators.

“We appreciate the leadership of the police and what they have done for us so far,” Rachur told NTV. “As the deputy police commander said, we will leave the matter in the hands of the DCI and continue cooperating as a family.”
