South Sudan’s state-owned oil company Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet) has launched a digital transformation project aimed at improving connectivity, security and information management across its operations, the company said in a statement shared with Radio Tamazuj.
The initiative, led by Nilepet Managing Director Emmanuel Athiei Ayual, includes the development of a fibre-optic network, enterprise network infrastructure, an IP-based CCTV surveillance system, biometric access controls and a data centre with backup power infrastructure.
Nilepet said the project is intended to improve communication between its headquarters and sites in different parts of South Sudan, allowing employees to share information and access digital services more reliably.
The company further said improved connectivity would help teams working away from its headquarters communicate more efficiently with management and colleagues.
The security component of the project will include CCTV cameras and biometric access controls to monitor facilities and regulate access to restricted areas, Nilepet said.
The project also includes integrating Nilepet’s sites through a central data centre to support digital services, applications and information management, the company said.
Nilepet said the effectiveness of the new systems would depend on reliable infrastructure, cybersecurity, technical support and staff training.
Local company involved
The project is being implemented by Sudd Connect Ltd, a South Sudanese information and communications technology company, Nilepet said.
The company said the project is in line with the 2018 Local Content Policy, which promotes employment, training, capacity building and procurement of goods and services from South Sudanese-owned businesses.
Nilepet, South Sudan’s state-owned national oil company, represents the government’s interests in the petroleum sector and participates in oil and gas operations.
