Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Governor Charles Madut Akol held a meeting with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Party League in Aweil Town on Wednesday to boost political engagement and influence among local communities in preparations for the December 2026 general elections.
The meeting held at the State House brought together the SPLM Party youth, women, Boda-boda, artists, students, and religious leagues, among others.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Bona Bak Apeny, the Deputy Chairperson for the SPLM Youth League, said the meeting was to prepare members and the general public for the polls.
Other items on the agenda included the introduction of party league leaders, unity, and the commemoration of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Day on 16th May.
“The meeting was about the upcoming elections in December 2026. If there is unity in every family, progress and development can happen,” he said. “The governor is calling for unity among the party league members so that they can defeat the opposition in case the elections are conducted.”
According to Apeny, resolutions were made to increase awareness and mobilization for all party members and entire communities to vote for President Salva Kiir as the SPLM Party flag bearer and any nominated governor for Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
“The leagues may mobilize leaders and all communities to vote for the interest of the SPLM Party, vote for General Salva Kiir, and vote for a governor that will be given a governorship ticket in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State,” Bona stated.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Deng Akook, the chairperson of the SPLM Party’s Religious Affairs League in the state, called upon different religious groups to maintain peace and unity and prepare for the elections.
“The session was excellent, and our message was to support peace and unity among our grassroots communities, Muslims and Christians, so that people can turn up for the elections with unity in the coming few months,” he stated.
