Man arrested for killing brother, burning church in Source Yubu

A man has been arrested after allegedly killing his brother and burning a church in Source Yubu, Tambura County. The suspect, 32-year-old Dunka Ngora, reportedly appeared mentally unstable, authorities said.

According to Alison Salvario, a local community leader, the incident began on Sunday when Ngora set fire to a local church and urinated in a community well. When the community chief and local youth attempted to intervene, Ngora allegedly attacked his brother, 28-year-old Peter Ngora, with a knife, killing him on the spot.

“Residents must remain calm,” he told Radio Tamazuj. “The suspect is in police custody. It is important to report criminals to authorities instead of taking the law into your own hands.”

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred in Nabanga village, but the exact motive remains unclear. The community is shocked, and tensions remain high following the violent attack.

Mathew Mabenge, Commissioner for Tambura County, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect will be transported to Tambura Town to face legal proceedings. He emphasized that violence and killing are unacceptable in the community.

Deputy Police Commissioner Maj. General Badista Kumbo said his office is still gathering information, but assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

Local authorities are calling on residents to avoid violence, resolve conflicts peacefully, and respect the law. They warned that incidents like this create fear, tension, and insecurity in the community.
